RECONSTRUCTION OF THE SAN SALVO BICCARI DN 650 (26″), 75 bar NATURAL GAS PIPELINE AND RELATED WORKS

Enereco has carried out the basic and detail design related to the reconstruction of the San Salvo – Biccari natural gas pipeline and related works.
The main pipeline is more than 88km long with a diameter of 26” and it crosses some Italian regions (Abruzzi, Molise and Puglia) in gas direction along a North – South route.
The new pipeline starts in the existing plant area in San Salvo (CH) and ends into the plant area in Biccari (FG). This line will replace the existing one, as its diameter is smaller; furthermore the project considers the construction of some new pipelines -with variable diameters and lengths, too, deriving directly from the main pipeline. In this way, the utilities already present will be reconnected.
Both the main pipeline and some minor lines will be removed.
The final goal was to issue a project “for tendering”, carrying out a cost estimation for construction; for this reason we’ve focused on:
- the analysis of the route and its main criticalities, paying particular attention on unstable areas;
- the development of those works in a decommissioning and removal phase;
- the preparation of the documentation for authorization requests to be submitted to the authorities interested by the pipeline.

Ensuring service continuity to all present utilities.
Study of the new natural gas pipeline route to guarantee it not to be located in unstable areas or archeological interest sites.
Our preliminary study of those areas, has shown an high risk of landslide and many archeological interest sites along the pipeline route.
We’ve designed a new natural gas pipeline route outside unstable areas.
Realization of copious crossings with Trenchless technology for avoiding the pipeline to be laid in unstable areas and reducing the pipeline laying impact on crossings.
The whole pipeline route shall be kept below the slip surfaces, ensuring a future safety condition where it hasn’t been possible to locate the route in other areas.
